Ronald Didier Hernandez, Ph.D. is a Diagnostic Analysis Research Manager at Doble Engineering Company with over 12 years of relevant experience in the field of power systems. He has a strong background in electrical engineering, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Technological University of Panama, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering - Power Systems, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering - Major in Power Systems from Northeastern University. Ronald has worked extensively in the development of mathematical algorithms for power systems diagnostics. He played a key role in developing the mathematical algorithm of the Doble Bushing Statistical Analysis Tool as part of the Test Assistant web-based application using the statistical Chi-squared Test. He also developed the mathematical algorithm that controls the assessment of moisture content in the solid insulation of power transformers via the Dielectric Frequency Response (DFR) method. He collaborated on the development of a new method to compensate the DFR-based moisture estimation for the presence of low molecular weight acids by assessing the content of these acids in power transformers. Ronald has conducted research experiments in insulating fluids to determine the influence of voltage stress and frequency on the conductivity of the fluid. He has also worked as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop the new version of the company Test Assistant software. He has prepared technical reports containing the results, analysis, and recommendations of the performed research activities so that the material is available to advance Doble’s engineering staff’s knowledge of power apparatus diagnostic. Ronald has published papers at the International Conference of Doble Clients and other journals to advance the understanding of the DFR method. He has contributed to the development of the guide for the use of DFR (IEEE C57.161) as an active participant in the IEEE Transformer Committee Meetings and a member of the DFR Task Force and DFR Working Group. He has also contributed to the development of the guide for the interpretation of moisture-related parameters (IEEE PC57.162) as an active participant in the IEEE Transformer Committee Meetings and a task force leader of the Moisture in Insulation Systems Working Group. Ronald is a research scientist with a strong tech stack that includes test and web technologies. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) in Global MBA from IE Business School.
